Frequently Asked Questions

General
  • Can I skip events? Yes. Each event has a "Tap Out Time" listed below.

  • Is there an allowance for clothing at weigh in? No. And you must wear clothes to the weight-in :-)  Shoes can be removed.

  • When does weight-in take place? The day of the race during check-in.

  • Can I pause my time in between events? No

  • What size bars are used? You can choose between 35lb and 45lb bars on deadlift. 45lb bars are used on bench.

  • What are typical times in the bench press and deadlift? Checkout the Typical Times page.

Deadlift
  • Can the deadlift be dropped from the top? No

  • Do we have to release our hands at the bottom? No, but you do have to come down under control. No bouncing.

  • Can we just open our hands or do we need to show we are not touching the bar? Just open your hand slightly or pause.

  • What happens to my time if I can't do all of the reps? You can tap out . The tap out time for deadlift is 12:00.

  • Are there bumper weights for lower weight ranges? Yes

Bench Press
  • Does the bar have to touch the chest on the decent? Yes, but no bouncing. 

  • Do arms have to lock out at the top of the rep? Yes

  • What happens to my time if I can't do all of the reps? You can tap out. The tap out time for bench press is 12:00.

Wall Ball
  • Do I have to catch the ball? No. You can let the weigh fall and pick it up each rep; it's slower but you can.

  • What happens if my throw is below the line? The rep doesn't count. At official events we have Power Racing open wall boards where the bottom of the board is at the target throw height . If you throw low, it won't reach the board and you will be chasing it.

  • What happens to my time if I can't do all of the reps? You can tap out. The tap out time for wall ball is 12:00.

  • What is consider a "full squat"? Upper legs must be parallel to the ground.  

Pull Ups / Chin-Ups
  • Can I do chin-ups instead of pull-ups? Yes

  • Can I alternate grips in each set? Yes

  • What happens to my time if I can't do all of the reps? You can tap out. The tap out time for pull ups is 12:00.

Row
  • What damper setting is used on the rower? You can select any damper setting you want.

  • What happens to my time if I don't finish the row? You can tap out. The tap out event time for row is 3:00/500m

Run
  • What happens to my time if I skip or don't finish the run? You can tap out. The tap out time for the run is 7:30/km.
